With in-home lessons, you can expect a convenient and personalized experience right in your own space. Our teachers follow the scheduled time closely, though they may arrive up to 5 minutes late due to traffic—something we try our best to anticipate but can only estimate roughly. We take timeliness very seriously and always ensure that students receive their full lesson time, even if the teacher arrives a few minutes late. Occasionally, if there’s a cancellation earlier in the day, we may reach out to ask if a later lesson can be moved to an earlier slot just for that week. This is always optional, and it’s absolutely fine to say no.
The Instrument
We highly recommend for in-home lessons that an upright piano, grand piano or an 88 key weighted action digital piano is available in the home. Weighted action keyboards offer a more authentic playing experience by replicating the feel of an acoustic piano. The weighted keys mimic the resistance of traditional piano keys, providing tactile feedback and dynamic control that is essential for expressive playing. Oiseau sources RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) certified teachers and professional Jazz musicians through a meticulous process to ensure high-quality music education. Here's an outline of their approach:
Qualification Verification: Oiseau checks the educational and professional background of potential teachers to check that they hold RCM certification. This includes verifying their credentials and certification status with the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Experience and Expertise: Candidates are evaluated based on their teaching experience and expertise in their specific instrument or area of music. Oiseau looks for teachers with a proven track record of successful student outcomes.
Interview Process: Potential teachers undergo a thorough interview process to assess their playing level, teaching philosophy, methods, performance experience and ability to connect with students. This helps ensure they align with Oiseau’s educational values and standards.
Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks are conducted to ensure the safety and reliability of the teachers. This includes a Police Vulnerable Sector Check as well asreferences from previous employers or clients.
Regular Professional Development: Oiseau conducts regular teaching sessions and professional development workshops for their teachers. These sessions focus on the latest pedagogical techniques, curriculum updates, and best practices in music education, ensuring continuous improvement and excellence in teaching.
Trial Lessons and Feedback: Selected candidates may be asked to conduct trial lessons. Feedback from these sessions is used to evaluate their teaching effectiveness and rapport with students.
Ongoing Evaluation: Once hired, our certified teachers are subject to regular performance evaluations and feedback from students and parents to maintain high teaching standards.
